OWL - Online Writing Lab: Home

Collection of short tutorials created by ASC, the Academic Support Center staff, to help students successfully execute the writing requirements at Louisville Seminary.

Seven Myths About ASC

1. The Center is a remedial service for poor writers.
All good writers realize writing is a process, beginning with a draft and then proceeding through several revisions before the "final" draft. We are here to help writers of any skill level work through their processes.

2. ASC is only for international students.
Although we do work with non-native speakers of English, the Center is for everyone.

3. The Center does work for students they should be doing for themselves.
We help you, not do the work for you.

4. The Center only helps with drafts of papers.
The tutors will also help you in the prewriting stages of brainstorming and organization.

5. ASC only helps with writing problems.
We work with students on a variety of tasks: writing, reading, critical analysis, notetaking, test-taking skills, study skills, ordination tests, and the list goes on.

6. You need an appointment to work with a tutor.
You may make an appointment if you wish, but drop-ins are certainly welcome.

7. The director is the one I need to see for help.
No way! The tutor comes in at 3:30 everyday (check times on the door) and she is very skilled in all aspects of writing and working with students.
